Barndominium & Shop Home FAQs
Largely, yes. A shop house—sometimes called a shouse—combines a large working shop attached to a primary residence. A barndominium refers to the same concept, and is often used interchangeably with shop home.
The two terms are used interchangeably. The difference comes down to technicalities—both refer to a home built with a large attached working space; it doesn’t have to be a workshop or barn specifically, despite what the names suggest.
We build the exterior shell to the lock-up stage: walls, cladding, roof, windows, and doors complete in a weather-resistant structure. From there, you’ll work with a general contractor to finish the interior with the floor plan, plumbing, electrical, and finishes. This process lets us focus on our core area of expertise, which is post frame construction.
